About
The truth is usually beneath the surface
Every outlet chooses which stories to tell, which facts to put first and which words to use. None of that is hidden, but it is hard to see from inside a single source.
Mantle gathers coverage of the same event from the left, the center and the right, and puts it on one page. You see what happened, how each side is telling it, which words are doing the persuading and which stories your usual sources are skipping.
How Mantle works
- Step 1
Gather
Mantle follows 79 outlets across five points of the political spectrum and groups their articles about the same event into one story.
- Step 2
Compare
It lays the coverage side by side: who is reporting it, the facts each side includes, and how each side frames it.
- Step 3
Spot the words
Loaded words are highlighted, with why each one carries a judgement and what a neutral writer would say.
Why Mantle exists
I built Mantle to solve a problem of my own. I wanted to find the truth beneath the surface, in a world filled with biased media and propaganda, and no single source could show it to me.
So Mantle puts the coverage side by side, shows how each part of the spectrum tells the story, and points out the words doing the persuading. Then it gets out of the way. Deciding what is true is your call.
Independent
Funded by readers, not by advertisers
A news business paid by advertisers is rewarded for your attention. One paid by a party is rewarded for your loyalty. Mantle is built to be paid for by the people who read it, so it has one job: showing you the whole picture.
Mantle runs no ads. It answers to its readers, and to nobody whose story it covers.
Mantle will never
- Tell you which side is right.
- Call a single article biased. A rating describes an outlet’s coverage as a whole.
- Sell your reading history. It stays on your device.
- Take money from a political party, a campaign, or an outlet it rates.
- Hide how a label, a count or a highlight was made.

What we hold ourselves to
Show, do not tell
Mantle lays the coverage side by side and explains what it sees. It never tells you which side is right.
The same standard for everyone
Every outlet and every part of the spectrum is measured with the same rules. Loaded language is flagged wherever it appears.
Open method
Outlet ratings, the word list and the rules the AI follows are all published. If a label looks wrong, you can see how it was made.
Teach the skill
The goal is not to make you depend on Mantle. It is to make loaded wording and missing coverage easy to notice anywhere you read.
Send readers to the source
Mantle shows headlines and short excerpts, then links to the outlet. Journalism is made by the people who report it.
Privacy by default
Reading Mantle needs no account. What you read is kept on your own device, and Mantle never sells it.
