Caleb Flynn, 40, a former “American Idol” contestant and Ohio music pastor, was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury convicted him last week of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, 37, a schoolteacher, in their Tipp City, Ohio home in February. Prosecutors said Flynn shot his wife while she slept and staged the scene to look like an intruder had broken in, an affair prosecutors tied to his relationship with Alleigha Botner. Judge Jeannine Pratt, who called his conduct “abhorrent,” handed down the sentence after victim impact statements from Ashley Flynn’s family, including letters from the couple’s two daughters. Flynn maintained his innocence at sentencing and said he plans to appeal.
