A civilian breached the perimeter of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, around 1 p.m. Saturday and engaged in a violent confrontation with security personnel before being detained, according to the base's 6th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office. One security officer and the civilian sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical care. The base closed its Dale Mabry Gate to inbound and outbound traffic afterward and asked people to avoid the area, though the Bayshore Gate remained open, according to a Facebook post. Authorities have not identified the individual or disclosed what led to the incident. An investigation is ongoing. MacDill hosts U.S. Central Command headquarters and more than 7,400 active-duty military members.
