Cybersecurity firm Semperis’s 2026 Ransomware Risk Report, based on a survey of 1,200 IT and security professionals in nine countries and eight industry sectors, found that 84% of surveyed ransomware victims said attackers used artificial intelligence in their attacks. The survey was conducted with research consultant Censuswide. According to CBS News, the report also found that 44% of surveyed organizations said attackers exploited their own AI systems, and that 59% of victims paid a ransom at least once. The report says AI helps attackers find network weaknesses faster and tailor social engineering to individual employees, according to Straight Arrow News. Experts quoted by that outlet argue that AI could let people without technical expertise carry out attacks.
